In 1997, Mr Terrence Lynch established Transcon Shipping after years of ocean carrier and freight forwarding business experience. His concept was to focus on the freight forwarding side of the business and make service and advanced technology the key components of this new business model.

In the first year, Transcon Los Angeles, Transcon New York and an affiliate in Asia were opened. In its second year business continued its expansion with three new offices.

Over the past 20 years, their sales team covered most of the main cities within the United States and their customer base expands across the whole country. In addition to ocean and air freight transportation, Transcon Shipping provide various services including Customs Brokerage, Trucking and Warehousing allowing them to manage shipments from point to point.

They joined Globalia to expand their pool of agent partners, as in their own words “Our goal is to establish close working relations with each of their agent partners along the way.”

Interview with GLB Istanbul

As this is our first interview we thought we would introduce you to our first member. Meet Mr Cihan Ozkal, the Sales & Marketing Manager from Armada Logistics, our exclusive member in Istanbul. We recently spoke with him about his company, its future and the current industry climate in Turkey.

Logistics Industry

Q. When and how did you get into the freight forwarding industry?
A. I started commercial life in the chemical Sector in 1990 responsible for foreign trade and logistics.

Q. Can you tell us a little of the history of Armada Logistics?
A. Armada Logistics was founded in 2000 by Mr Cihan Ozkal and Mrs Emine Avci Ozkal (previous experience in the financial sector). The idea was to stay boutique freight forwarder to serve limited clients and focus on their all types of transportation needs especially chemicals and food sector.

Q. What distinguishes Armada Logistics from other freight forwarders in your city?
A. Armada Logistics is based in Istanbul city, which is the commercial centre of Turkey. Nearly 40% of the country’s import & export volume is done via Istanbul. Our expertise in sea freight both FCL/LCL and flexi-tank, iso-tank shipments, Speedy Road transportation between TR/EU, Road Transportation BENELUX/DE/FR/IT/CH, EU/TR, IRAN transit movements (we have our own SOC/NVOCC service for IRAN), CIS Countries like AZ, KZ. Air cargo service works 24/7. Port salvage services for any type of packing, IMDG/ADR/DG or NON IMDG/ADR/DG cargos.

Q. What are the main challenges facing freight forwarders in the Turkey now?
A. Even with the economic and political instability within Turkey, we are still one of the fastest growing markets in the world. The import and export regulations and customs regulation systems are changing and sometimes cause serious problems, since Turkey is not in the EU, applying EU regulations. There are serious issues in the South of Turkey, with many markets and routes lost in Syria/Iraq.

Q. How is the freight forwarding industry tackling these challenges?
A. The competition is very high but the freight forwarding industry is trying to find different lines and markets. The aim being to adapt to the new conditions and find new markets in CIS And North, West & East Africa.

Q. How is Armada Logistics dealing with these challenges daily?
A. We know foreign trade and when you combine this knowledge with logistics, you can understand your clients and agent’s needs, very well. This knowledge gives us a good advantage in understanding our client’s needs and thus solving their problems quicker than others.

Q. What attracted you to apply for membership of GLOBALIA?
A. First, it was the good and effective website combined with the information flow; that was very important for us. Being situated in only one area is also attractive to our company.

Q. You are attending our first annual meeting, what are your goals for the event?
A. Our goal is to meet with new friends first, to build good sincere relationships with a wider network.

Q. What would you say to an agent who is unsure about attending the annual meeting?
A. Annual meetings are very important and the key to success in networking. It is nice to see all friends & agents together. We believe that it is particularly useful to see them all together at least once a year. There is also the savings in terms of time and money, as you see many agents in a 2-3 day period!

Q. Where do you see Armada Logistics in 10 years?
A. Armada Logistics will remain as an effective and smart boutique freight forwarder and be always well known and trustable agent in TURKEY by all other agents. We would like to see our company act as an effective partner between east and west and make logistics easier for everyone.

Globalia Logistics Network begins operations – AJOT

Globalia – Best freight forwarder Network- AJOT

Limerick, Ireland – The industry’s newest exclusive freight forwarder network Globalia Logistics Network begins operations today with 52 member companies in 74 cities across 56 countries.

“We are really pleased to be launching today with this exceptional group of founding companies. Each has successfully gone through our strict selection process and been audited and approved by Dun & Bradstreet,” explained Founder Antonio Torres.

“I truly believe that the only way to really know whether a company is financially stable is through a third-party examination which only 10% of applicants pass. I carry out the same application process in my other network CONQUEROR. Like it, we offer each member exclusivity in their city, operating in delimited territories with no overlapping and therefore no competition,” explained Mr Torres.

Globalia Logistics Network was set up in response to the unprecedented demand for membership of Conqueror Freight Network, Antonio Torres’ first freight forwarder network founded back 2010.

“As you can see from our numbers, we still have some way to go to be the same as Conqueror but we have made a good start; size is not everything, the main priority for every network should be the quality of its membership, not the size of it,” he emphasised.

Globalia Logistics Network’s launch comes at the end of a significant year for the industry where freight forwarders experienced many challenges including cargo delays caused by the collapse of the Korean shipper Hanjin, new SOLAS regulations and Brexit causing a drop-in sterling which benefited multinationals not independents to name just a few.

“It is more important than ever for freight forwarders to come together and be part of a network; it’s lonely out there for companies when they face challenges at every turn. Networks should be offering support and assistance to their members and I am proud to say that Globalia and my team will be offering members assistance every which way we can,” Mr Torres said.

Antonio Torres invites interested agents to get in touch. “We would welcome applications from those companies who although not the largest in their city, are the most secure, professional and knowledgeable; especially those whose current network isn’t working for them.”

Globalia Logistics Network has begun operations today (Wednesday 15 December) with 52 member companies in 74 cities across 56 countries. The network was founded by Antonio Torres in response to the demands for membership of Conqueror Freight Network, his first freight forwarder network founded in 2010.

Globalia says its launch comes at the end of a challenging year for freight forwarders including the collapse of the Korean shipper Hanjin, new SOLAS regulations, and Brexit devaluing the pound sterling, which it says benefitted multinationals but not independents.

Torres says applicants were subjected to a strict selection process, explaining: “I truly believe that the only way to really know whether a company is financially stable is through a third-party examination which only 10% of applicants pass. I carry out the same application process in my other network CONQUEROR.”

He adds: “We would welcome applications from those companies who although not the largest in their city, are the most secure, professional and knowledgeable; especially those whose current network isn’t working for them.”

Globalia launches Freight Forwarder Network – FREIGHT INDUSTRY TIMES

The freight forwarding sector’s latest network, the Globalia Logistics Network, has been launched. The network began operations with 52 member companies in 74 cities across 56 countries.

Exclusive Network draws a crowd – UK HAULIER

Limerick, Ireland, 02/11/2016- Since its launch as the newest freight forwarder network on the block just two months ago, Globalia Logistics Network has been inundated with applications for membership and visits to its website (www.globalialogisticsnetwork.com).

“The response is as we expected; there are a lot of companies out there that want exclusivity in their city, financially secure partners and a network team that will support them on a daily basis,” said Antonio Torres, founder of Globalia Logistics Network, “We are receiving dozens of applications daily and due to our rigorous selection process, only 1/10 applications is making it through to the second stage, the auditing by DUN & BRADSTREET.”

He continued, “Some might say that 1/10 isn’t very many to be passing the application process and they would be right, it isn’t. However, what it does mean is that our network has only the most financially stable and secure companies as members. The financial risks of working with our members is almost non-existent.”

Globalia Logistics Network is just the second network to offer this kind of financial scrutiny of its members and thus security for its members. The other being Conqueror Freight Network which was also founded by Mr Torres. “Conqueror was reaching capacity and the only way for other professional forwarders to get the same benefits was to launch another network, a clone of Conqueror,” he said.

“In the past six years, since we launched Conqueror, not a single new network has come out offering the level of benefits or scrutiny of its applicants that we do. Most of the networks out there just want to take a membership fee in exchange for a phone book of members; no marketing tools, no dedicated PR team promoting both within and outside the network, I could go on,” explained Antonio.

“You would be forgiven for asking why freight forwarders are joining these networks and the truth is that as the multinationals gain 1% of the market annually, forwarders have little choice but to work together even if that means taking a risk in joining a such network,” continued Antonio Torres.

“Those who successfully pass the membership process will enjoy 6 months’ free membership. When that time is up, agents should know whether or not the network is working for them. It can’t be more transparent than that,” said Membership Development Manager, Francisco Perez.

Forwarder Network accepts only top flight operators – SHIPPING GAZETTE

The Conqueror Freight Network has set up the ‘Globalia Logistics Network”, which will be open exclusively to “first class” freight forwarders in each air and seaport location. Applicants for Globalia will undergo a rigorous selection process including external auditing. The one in 10 applicants accepted will enjoy six months’ membership for free, reports London’s Air Cargo News.

Globalia founder Antonio Torres explained the importance of networks for independent forwarders: “With the multinationals taking more and more of their business daily, independent forwarders find themselves in a cooperate or die situation which rogue network operators are exploiting.

“In the last decade, the majority of the emerging networks have only been interested in one thing; collecting a membership fee. None offer the rigorous selection process we do, none offer the financial security we do and none offer the daily support and amount of quality complimentary marketing tools we do.

“Some might say that what we are launching is not new, and they would be right. We are offering the same opportunities as Conqueror but for a new group of first class companies, allowing them to work with the same calibre of agents as themselves worldwide.”
