“Freight forwarding is a global business, which requires us to focus on strong partnership ties and collaborate as a solid team.” Interview with Globalia Madrid

This week we had an interview with Mr. Valeriano Garcia – CEO Globalia member in Madrid, who talks about his company and the challenges facing the freight forwarding industry.

Q. When and how did you get into the freight forwarding industry?
A. I started my career in the freight forwarding industry since June 1991.

Q. Can you tell us a little about ELS GROUP’ history?
A. ELS is a privately owned logistics company which was founded in Saudi Arabia in January 2012. Our company has very quickly evolved into a premier provider of freight forwarding, distribution and warehousing services. The core focus of our organization is to provide our clients with cost-effective and high-tech solutions for their complicated supply chain requirements.

Q. What distinguishes ELS GROUP from other freight forwarders in your city?
A. Our area of specialization is international transport and multi-modal transport and service. We have been offering complete traffic management services by identifying and evaluating the requirements of the shipper and designing customized shipping programs by making use of the most effective modes of transportation. We provide our clients with a range of logistical services, which include customs clearance, warehousing, distribution, technological services, specialized services for the automotive industry, tailor-made services and much more.
Our culture at ELS is marked by a robust “can do it” attitude- on which we count on for resolving challenging issues, carrying out our daily tasks and for coming up with creative solutions for our clients and partners.

Q. How is ELS GROUP dealing with their daily challenges?
A. Freight forwarding is a global business, which requires us to focus on strong partnership ties between independent freight forwarders and collaborate on more projects as a solid team. However, most freight forwarders fail to grasp the importance of cooperation and teamwork, which is precisely why they miss out on some of the most lucrative business opportunities.

Q. How could the freight forwarding industry improve?
A. Independent freight forwarders need to become part of a network and stay connected with each other, just like the multinational freight forwarders do.

Q. How is ELS GROUP dealing with their daily challenges?
A. Enhancing our IT system and working tirelessly to improve our work relations with the members helps us to get more projects and improve our company’s presence. We believe that teamwork with our partners in various parts of the world is something which can greatly boost our company’s profile.

Q. What attracted you most about Globalia Logistics Network?
A. Some of the factors that convinced us to join Globalia are the global coverage of the network, its reliability and of course the fact that only quality freight forwarders make it to this network.

Q. What would be the most significant shipment your team has handled?
A. Our most significant shipment so far has been the transportation of 4.5 metric tons of IMO mineral to China in a single shipment.

Q. What were the challenges with this shipment?
A. Liaising with the port authorities, road authorities, arranging for permits and licenses and negotiating with the carriers for obtaining equipment space within a very tight frame of time proved to be quite a challenge. Consolidated teamwork and our perfect relationship with the carriers, custom and port authorities are some of the factors which allowed us to execute this challenging project with considerable ease.

Q. Where do you see ELS GROUP in 10 years?
A. For the ELS team, the sky is the limit. In 10 years we will be as high as our efforts can drive us.

60% increase in the attendance of new members at Globalia’s 2nd Annual Meeting

Kuala Lumpur, 16th May 2018: Globalia’s 2nd Annual Meeting brought together more than 90 independent freight forwarders from over 50 countries of the globe, with a 60% increase in the attendance of new members. Globalia members came together from 9th May to 11th May at Kuala Lumpur to promote their individual businesses and to touch base with their partners for enhanced possibilities of cooperation in the days to come.

Globalia’s 2nd Annual Meeting offered the members the perfect opportunity to partner with other members from all around the world and showcase their business on a truly international platform. Every attending agent got to schedule 22 one-to-one meetings with other members which were pre-booked through the one-to-one meeting scheduler. Some of the highlights of the conference included a welcome cocktail reception and a gala dinner party which provided a welcome break from all the business talks. It goes without saying that the one-to-one meetings which formed the core networking activity of the conference gave the members plenty of opportunities to strengthen the bonds within the network and paved the path for a mutually beneficial business relationship.

It needs to be mentioned that one of the major events at this year’s Annual Meeting was the introduction of the FreightViewer software which enables the members to generate instant online door to door quotations for their clients and partners from more than 120 countries. This freight rate management software is expected to immensely facilitate the business activities of the members by reducing their quote processing time from days to just a few hours.
As stated by Antonio Torres, the Founder and President of Globalia Logistics Network, “Apart from the creation and development of reciprocal business relationships, the attendees also got a chance to appreciate the quality of fellow Globalia members.” Mr. Torres has further added that “The turnout rate for this year’s meeting has been fantastic, considering the fact that this is just our second year.”

Additionally, during the whole year, Globalia has been joined by a 25% more members and the network is presently covering 21% more countries than the previous year, with 163 agents and almost 120 countries. All this wouldn’t have been possible without the active participation of Globalia members and the diligence and commitment of their team.

Virginia Molpeceres, Co-founder of Globalia Logistics Network, also stated “Our team is absolutely enthralled with the success of our 2nd Annual Meeting. We couldn’t have been happier about the fact that our team has been joined by 25% more members than the previous year and our Annual meeting witnessed a 60% increase in attendance of new members.”

Globalia London carries out the delivery of a special pre-historic discovery of human remains

Yes 2 Ship also took charge of arranging for urgent customs clearance of this shipment

GlobaliaLogistics Industry member in London, Yes 2 Ship, saved the day on Tuesday of this week when they were called upon by University College London (UCL) to assist in the urgent Customs Clearance and direct drive delivery of a very special pre-historic discovery of human remains found in a remote area of Southern Sudan.

UCL is the leading worldwide player in the mapping of mankind’s DNA and having discovered a “pre-historic” skeleton they needed help from Yes 2 Ship’s government contacts to obtain customs clearance with virtually no paperwork of these priceless artefacts.

Prior to Yes 2 Ship’s involvement, the shipment was stuck in London Customs for over 14 days with little chance of being resolved. However, this issue was sorted within just 3 hours and delivered personally to UCL by Yes 2 Ship’s Globalia Manager Charlie West. The “Pre-Historic Skelton” is in the UK to be DNA tested and may prove to be the missing link in mankind’s move from nomadic African hunter-gatherers to those who first ventured to what is now the modern Middle East and Europe.

In the words of Ian West, Managing Director of Yes 2 Ship Ltd “Although Yes 2 Ship has moved everything from artwork by Van Gogh to Gold Bullion, this shipment consisting of the irreplaceable missing link from everyone’s “family tree” has been our most significant move to date.”

Congratulations to Yes 2 Ship for the successful delivery of this special shipment!

Fostering the development of a spirit of mutual cooperation between members is the core agenda of the meeting which is why Globalia allows each agent to book up to 22 one-to-one meetings with their current and potential partners in course of the 2 days of the meeting. Over 2000 meetings have been already scheduled by agents with other members within the network. The 3 days of the conference would give the members a platform to effectively promote their individual businesses, appreciate the quality of other Globalia agents and create lasting ties with fellow members which would eventually lead to a greater business volume.

The Gala Dinner on the 2nd evening of the conference would give the attendees a chance to indulge in merrymaking and allow them to foster the networking ties in a more informal setting. All the agents and their spouses will be treated at one of the finest restaurants in the city where they will experience a scrumptious dining experience followed by a little fun time with other members. On the 3rd day, there will be another tight session of one-to-one meetings after which the conference will be officially closed.

After attending Globalia’s 1st Annual Meeting, the representative of Columbia Transport SRL, Globalia Milan commented that: “We highly appreciate the professionalism shown by the Globalia team in the organization of the Annual Meeting. We are delighted with the coverage that the network has reached within a year, the quality of its members, the payment protection plan and of course the port exclusivity of the members. We hope to know our partners better at the next Annual Globalia Meeting.” It goes without saying that Globalia’s 2nd Annual Meeting is going to be even more successful than last year and we sincerely hope that the networking opportunities turn out to be highly productive for all our agents.
