Multimodal long-haul overseas shipment of fragile and high-value cargo safely executed by Globalia Marseille

They are regularly undertaking shipments of cars, motorcycles, computer equipment etc from Marseille to countries in West Africa and the Middle East

GFS Logistics, Globalia member in Marseille, France, is handling high-value shipments of assorted items to territories in West Africa and the Middle East. The shipment includes items such as motorcycles, cars, personal effects, computer equipment, used tires, used refrigerators, foodstuff etc.

The dimensions of the shipment vary according to the goods. While the smaller shipments have dimensions of 82 x 90 x 65 cm, the larger shipments have dimensions such as 5100 x 2100 x 2100 cm.

To begin with, they develop a pre-carriage which is done first by road/rail transport – “As most of our operations are export, we direct the goods by road to the nearest port. The second step is freight, where the main transportation and routing are often done by sea or air freight.
Finally, we use another road transport to carry the goods to the final recipient,” explains Ahlem Rahmaoui from GFS Logistics.

They use containers of varying sizes including 20′ GP, 40’GP, 40 HC, and 45 HC, along with flat racks, dry containers, and reefer containers depending on the shipment. Mr Rahmaoui continues, “The biggest challenges remain the very long transports, for example from Marseille to Moroni where you have to be considerate to ensure that the shipping is done in the best conditions. Moreover, it is a real challenge when customers want their goods within a short period of time, so we have to make sure that we find the right dates for them.”

It is the carriers who organize the stowage and packing before sending the goods by sea or air. GFS Logistics only acts as a forwarding agent who organizes these transports with the contacts of the carriers and the customers.

Congratulations to Globalia Marseille and wishing them all the best for their future projects!

Project shipment of 81 tons of one big mobile asphalt plant moved by Globalia Itajai/ Sao Paulo

They collaborated with Globalia La Guaira, who helped them with the discharge of their chartered vessel and issued documents for clearing goods to their final consignee

LAC Worldwide - logistics company in Itajai and Sao Paolo
Project Cargo of LAC Worldwide

LAC Worldwide, Globalia member in Itajai and Sao Paolo, Brazil, has carried out the successful transportation of a project cargo consisting of a mobile asphalt plant with tanks and accessories. The primary equipment, the asphalt plant, was 22.60 meters in length, 3.20 meters in width, and 4.40 meters in height. The tanks and trailers, measured 14.00 meters x 3.20 meters x 4.40 meters. In addition, they moved wooden crates specifically designed by LAC Worldwide to accommodate all the accessories and made them forkliftable. In total, the shipment amounted to 783 cubic meters and 81 tons.

Felipe Sellera, the Project Cargo and Branch Manager of LAC Worldwide, highlights that apart from dealing with the size and unique characteristics of the cargo, one of the major challenges of this project was the destination itself. “Venezuela has recently posed difficulties for spot projects, making it a complex country to operate in. However, our team navigated these challenges by avoiding LOLO operations and instead focused on finding a tailor-made vessel that suited the project’s requirements.”

They used shrink-wrapping plastic to protect the equipment and avoid damage to the electronic controlling components. Moreover, owing to the low ground clearance of the main cargo, combined with its considerable length, the team executed several strategic manoeuvres. These manoeuvres were necessary to enable safe handling during the loading and discharge operations.

“Additionally, we had the invaluable support of Globalia agent, Cosmos Enterprises. They helped us to conduct a thorough survey of the discharge process for the chartered vessel. They also helped us obtain the necessary documentation to clear the goods for its final consignee. Lastly, this collaboration and support played a crucial role in the project’s successful execution despite the complexities associated with the destination,” adds Mr Sellera.

Congratulations to LAC Worldwide and all the best for their upcoming projects!

Globalia Hanoi increases its cross-border cargo services due to the expansion of Laos market

They have been offering this bi-weekly overseas cargo service for over two years

TNM Shipping and Logistics - Globalia Hanoi
Cross-border shipments of Globalia Hanoi

TNM Shipping and Logistics Co Ltd, Globalia member in Hanoi, Vietnam, has experienced an important expansion of their cross-border cargo services thanks to the growth of the Laos market.

“We started transporting regular shipments of commodities like sunflower oil, new machinery, garment, non-DG chemicals, etc. However, we soon extended our services to certain categories of special cargo like DG, oversized and overweight shipments, used personal effects, and electronic household appliances”, states Mrs Vi Bui, Commercial Director of TNM Shipping and Logistics Co Ltd.

Now, they are doing Cross Border delivering services from Hanoi to Cambodia, China, Laos, etc. The factors that set them apart from the competition are their economical pricing and faster transport time. Additionally, according to Mrs Vi, this service is allowing them to “exploit the potential customers in Laos market for both import/export, which can help to further promote the trustworthiness of our overseas transportation department.”

However, in order to gain experience and reach the volume of business they manage now, they have had to face some difficult challenges. For instance, in order to expedite the smooth movement of cargo, they needed to study and update the customs regulations of Laos and regularly check all the rules to avoid trouble.

Mrs Vi adds, “There are special categories that have been prohibited to be moved via Vietnam port such as used machines, wine, beer cigarettes etc. Therefore, apart from checking the customs regulations in both Vietnam and Laos, we also need to review the export/import license of our customers in Laos.”

Congratulations to Globalia Hanoi and all the best for their upcoming projects!
